Who has the best pizza in the country? Well, apparently New England.
Two Massachusetts pizza restaurants recently made The Daily Meal’s 101 best pizzas in America list, as well as a Connecticut-based pizzeria with a Massachusetts location.
The first on the list to represent Massachusetts is the Galleria Umberto pizzeria in Boston, which The Daily Meal positioned at number 25 on the list.
According to the Daily Meal, Galleria Umberto is a cash-only counter known Sicilian-style pizza and Italian food right by the Boston Public Garden.
“The coveted Massachusetts pizzeria specializes in square slices, but cheese is the only type on offer, and you can only order for lunch during the hours of 10:45 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.,” the Daily Meal writes.
The next Massachusetts pizzeria on the list, at number seven, is Santarpio’s, which is also in Boston.
Another cash-only restaurant, Santarpio’s offers a wide range of options including shrimp scampi pizza, but reigns supreme with their classic pepperoni slice, the Daily Meal reports.
Topping the list at number one is Connecticut’s Frank Pepe Pizzeria Napoletana. The New Haven-based pizzeria does, however, have a Massachusetts location in Watertown.
According to the Daily Meal, the pizzeria is famous for its signature coal-fired white clam pizza, which features fresh clams, grated pecorino romano, garlic, oregano and olive oil. The popular pizzeria also has locations in Rhode Island and New York.
