I am very proud to have worked with so many wonderful and hardworking staff and partners who have indeed been the underlying strength in the growth and success of Munro Spaul. I am very pleased and comfortable to know that Alwyn Patterson and his team are dedicated to continuing the high levels of support and service for which Munro Spaul is known.

Retiring senior consultant Bruce Spaul

When Bruce Spaul retires from Hurstville accounting firm Munro Spaul this year he won’t exactly be leaving the building.

Already working as a director in a part-time capacity the experienced accountant will continue his association by providing auditing services as a consultant.

The accounting firm was first established in Jannali in 1975 by the late Keith Munro.

Bruce joined the firm and was offered partnership in 1982, after which it was registered as Munro Spaul.

Over the years there have been offices in Jannali, Penshurst, Padstow and Hurstville but the firm recently moved to a new space on The Avenue, next to Hurstville Westfield.

Bruce has spent more than 40 years with the firm, first working with Keith Munro, then his brother Trevor Spaul and, in more recent years, with Alwyn Patterson.

Over this time he has helped Munro Spaul grow from three employees to 15.

In 2017 Bruce sold the firm to Alwyn Patterson of Patterson Partners and has continued to work as a part-time consulting director.

“After doing well in the 1970 Higher School Certificate at Sydney Technical High School, I was advised by a very successful family friend and mentor to become an accountant,” Bruce said.

“I studied at the University of NSW for six years part-time and then completed the ICAA professional year, succeeding in becoming a chartered accountant in 1978.

“During this time, I was very fortunate to be trained and guided by some wise and experienced mentors in audit, taxation and business.”

After nine years with a medium sized chartered accountancy firm, Bruce moved on to a public company where he spent three years as chief accountant.

Following his preference to work with small business and individual clients he then returned to public accounting.

“Once again, I was fortunate, this time in joining Keith Munro in his firm,” Bruce said. With a solid reputation for excellence and caring personalised service, Munro Spaul is an established, accredited accounting firm catering for a diverse range of entities across a broad industry base.

Services include accounting, taxation, financial planning, self-managed superannuation fund compliance, bookkeeping and payroll.

In addition their special areas of expertise include Small and Medium Business, Self-Managed Superannuation Funds, Financial Planning, Not for Profit Associations, Medical Professionals, Sporting Professionals and Media Personalities.

Their accredited, experienced staff can offer an individualised service and are focused on providing quality solutions for your all personal or business taxation as well as your financial planning requirements.

They can simplify your business processes, manage cashflow, maximise your profits, all the time ensuring that they meet your legal obligations.

Bruce said he has enjoyed the challenge of helping private individuals, small businesses, not for profit associations, sporting celebrities and media personalities manage their way through what can be a minefield of taxation and accounting regulations and requirements, while also having an understanding of each client’s personal requirements.

“It has been wonderful to witness the successful development of so many small and medium size businesses and become friends with the families behind them,” he said.

A dedicated member of the local community Bruce has also given his own time, knowledge and experience as a voluntary director on the boards of the St George and Sutherland Shire Medical Research Foundation and St George Leagues and Football Clubs.

Munro Spaul as a company continues this tradition of giving back to the community by sponsoring charities and sporting associations including The Joanne Mackay Breast Cancer Foundation, St George Cricket Club, Bexley Golf Club and Sylvania Bowling Club.

“I am very proud to have worked with so many wonderful and hardworking staff and partners who have indeed been the underlying strength in the growth and success of Munro Spaul,” Bruce said.

“I am very pleased and comfortable to know that Alwyn Patterson and his team are dedicated to continuing the high levels of support and service for which Munro Spaul is known.”

All the staff at Munro Spaul would like to take this opportunity to wish their much admired colleague Bruce, his wife Julie and their family all the best on his retirement.
