TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) – Amsterdam in downtown Tupelo is one the many restaurants where employees stop serving food and alcohol at eleven o’clock at night.
Emberly Hamblin has been working at Amsterdam Deli and Beer since July. Hamblin said they are closing early because of the governors’ executive order.
Governor Tate Reeves’ order says restaurants and bars must stop the sale and consumption of alcohol at eleven. Hamblin said closing the entire restaurant at eleven o’clock makes it easier for customers and employees.
“We could stay open later past eleven, but to keep the temptations from anyone trying order any alcohol, we go ahead and close.”
Tupelo Mayor, Jason Shelton said bars and restaurants can choose to sell food after eleven. He said its just safer to stop serving alcohol at a certain time.
