Andhra Pradesh government has officially rolled out a free of cost crop insurance scheme for the state’s farmers. Earlier this year, Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has made an announcement about this scheme during ‘YSR Rythu Dinotsavam’.
As part of his address to the public at Jammalamadugu, Andhra Pradesh CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy had also distributed insurance enrolment receipts marking the launch of this insurance scheme. The CM had further directed officials concerned to ensure implementation of the scheme starting this Kharif season.
The Andhra Pradesh government, during Rabi season (2019-20), had decided to implement the scheme as a 100 per cent state scheme for all cultivators, farmers cultivating notified crops. This was to be done on the basis of registration for the scheme through the state’s Android-based e-crop application.
This scheme of the YSR government in Andhra Pradesh aims to provide all eligible cultivators with protection. Measures such as physical verification of crops sown and hassle-free enrolment format have been introduced as part of this free of cost crop insurance scheme to ensure smooth implementation.
Claims to be made after the implementation of this scheme could go up to Rs 1,801 crores.
By paying a token amount of Re 1, farmers have enrolled themselves for the scheme in large numbers during the Andhra Pradesh government’s campaign for the same. The state government is already supplying seeds, fertilizers, and pesticides to farmers apart from the ‘Rythu Bharosa’ amount. Officials have also committed to ensuring MSP for the state’s farmers.
